Ireland's food and beverage industry continues to go from
strength to strength. This year sees the largest ever contingent
of Irish exhibitors attend SIAL Paris, which is testament to
that success. Furthermore, the variety and scope of exhibitors
has broadened significantly in recent years, again reflecting
the continued innovation and diversification of the industry.
Another area of success for the industry has been the continued
expansion of the voluntary sustainability scheme Origin Green.
Launched six years ago at SIAL, the national sustainability
programme now boasts a membership base of over 300
companies, with 90 per cent of Irish food and beverage exports
independently verified under the scheme.
Bord Bia (the Irish Food Board) is continuing to update and broaden the
scope of the scheme and emerging companies are building sustainability
agendas into their business plans from the beginning, reflecting the
committed mindset of the industry to sustainable production.
This commitment is industry wide and in our interview with Minister for
Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Creed, he says the future of
the industry will be driven by a sustainable agenda.
As always, we have the latest news and insights from across the agri-food
industry.
Enjoy!
